Continuing the theme: works of Chingiz Aitmatov was also translated into the language of Marathi people

About this Mr. Aitmatov said on the 20th of the January 2008 at the Vefa Centre where our Turkish friends organized the presentation of the Turkish version of the Eternal Bride, his last book.

During the event Chingiz Aitmatov said that in one day somebody sent him his works tanslating into Marathi language.

"Where are living people who speaks on Marathi language? This question I asked to many people here in Kyrgyzstan. Nobody answered me. Then I phoned to Moscow, to my friend Andrey Zolotov. He promissed to know. Next day Mr. Zolotov informed me that these people are living in India. So very small nation - only 20.000.000 persons!"

Very interesting fact, that Mumbai is the centre of the Marathi people region in India. And during the 10th Third Eye Mumbai Asian Film Festival I could to see many films on Marathi language. And very good that Mr. Siddiq Barmak told me about his dream to make the film based on one of Aitmatov's story - in Mumbai!

As we know Aitmatov's books were translated into 170 world languages.

Mr. Aitmatov had a great contribution to the development of the Kyrgyz national cinematography: all his works were screened.

Chingiz Aitmatov died on the June 10, 2008.

Truly yours - Gulbara Tolomushova
