Biography of Birgit Beumers
Birgit Beumers is Reader in Russian at the University of Bristol. She completed her D.Phil at St Antony’s College, Oxford and specialises on contemporary Russian culture, especially cinema and theatre. She has edited and authored several books on Russian cinema, including A History of Russian Cinema (2009). With Mark Lipovetsky she has co-authored a book on New Russian Drama, entitled Performing Violence (2009). She is editor of the online journal KinoKultura and of the journal Studies in Russian and Soviet Cinema. She is currently working on Russian animation
