Samara Sagynbaeva

 

Samara Sagynbaeva is a director and producer from Kyrgyzstan, focusing on topics that reflect social and women's problems in Central Asia.


Samara studied an intensive directing course at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU) in the Czech Republic.


While working in journalism, her debut short documentary The Heir (2016) won an award Best Film by choice of CIS film critics at the Umut Forum and her first short fiction film The Swing (2019) participated in more than 40 festivals around the world and won several awards. Samara was an associate producer of the film The Road to Eden (2020) directed by the well-known filmmakers Dastan Japar and Bakyt Mukul, which premiered at Black Nights Tallinn Film Festival.

 

Samara’s upcoming documentary film “Panic Button”which is supported by the Czech Film Fund, Current Time, Prague Civil Society and other funds is in the late production stage. With this project Samara participated in the CineDOC-Tbilisi Mentorship Program. (2023)

MediaHub (KG) and Pandistan (CZ) are co-producing the project. 

 

Samara has participated and won the "Promising Filmmaker Award" of CHANEL x BIFF Asian Film Academy.
