Now Uzbekistan can nominate films for Academy Awards. Uzbekistan launched a national Oscar Committee, as American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences approved the official proposal. It means the country, first time in its almost-three-decade history, can nominate films for the Oscars.
As Uzbekistan Oscar Committee starts selecting and nominating, an Uzbek picture can run for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. The upcoming 92nd awarding ceremony will take place in Dolby theatre in Los Angeles on 9 February 2020.
Uzbekistan National Film Commission, coordinating the Oscar committee, is planning to call a news conference to present the new committee, its members and regulations of submitting films for the prestigious awards.
