NETPAC's program at the 36th MIFF: Before the Leaves Fall (Japan)
The first film of the NETPAC's program at the 36th Moscow IFF was BEFORE THE LEAVES FALL. We saw it on the 20th of the June 2014.
"Before the Leaves Fall", Japan, 2014, 102 min. Director & writer: Mineko Okamoto, cast: Kaoru Yachigusa Synopsis: 77-year-old Ichiko lives by herself in Tokyo, and has retired with plans to sell her home and find a final abode. Howerver, before that she wants to find a painting called "F Childhood Scene" by a famous artist named Kenichiro Miya and see it in person, as she believes she was the inspiration for it as a young girl.
Mineko Okamoto (1937) graduated from Waseda University with a psychology major. Upon her graduation she married a well-known Japanese filmmaker Kihachi Okamoto. In 1975, she established the production company "Kihachi Productions" to support her husband's filmmaking. "Before the Leaves Fall" is her feature film directorial debut at age 77. |
