On February 1, submission for the XX Kazan International Muslim Film Festival started. The submission will last till June 1, 2024. The Selection Committee will finish its work by the beginning of July. After this, the official selection will be announced.

The Human Rights Movement: "Bir Duino Kyrgyzstan" announces the beginning of the VII International Festival of Documentary Films on Human Rights "Bir Duino Kyrgyzstan", which will take place in Bishkek from 18 till 24 September 2013.

 

The main goal of the Festival – is creation of legal consciousness of the society through documentary films, development of tolerance and pluralism in society and also to encourage young filmmakers who shoot films about actual contemporary social and human rights problems. This is the only annual festival of documentary films on human rights held in Kyrgyzstan and in Central Asia.

 

The festival for the seventh time in Kyrgyzstan will join together filmmakers, journalists, art and culture activists, human rights defenders, critics and documentary filmmakers from different countries. Among participants of the festival are representatives of 14 countries: USA, Belgium, South Korea, Great Britain, Canada, Zimbabwe, Sweden, Poland, South Africa, France, Netherlands, Germany, Serbia, Kazakhstan.

 

 

 

This year the festival competition program consists of 32 films: 15 films under national program, 17 – under international. Each screening of the films will be followed by discussion of the problem raised with the film-maker, experts, human rights activists and heroes of films.

 

 

 

For the first time in the history of the national cinema all films will be dubbed into Kyrgyz language (two-voice dubbing) with subtitles in Russian and English.

 

 

 

 

The festival program will also include a seminar for partners of "Bir Duino Kyrgyzstan" members of the Regional Partner Platform "Central Asia on the Move" on: "the political space for NGOs: the right of citizens to form associations for the effective protection of the rights of labor migrants and members of their families"; themed photo exhibitions. Famous Russian film-maker and film-critic Galina Evtushenko will hold a master class for young filmmakers: "Documentaries: realities and prospects"

 

In October Festival will be continued in all regions of Kyrgyzstan and two cities of Tajikistan.

 

 

Main donors of the Festival this year are: ICCO/DCA, USAID and other International donor organizations. Festival is also supported by President Administration of KR, Mayor of Bishkek. For the first time the private business also supports the Festival, Mr. Askar Salymbekov the founder of the Fund of Progressive Initiatives.

 

The Human Rights Movement: "Bir Duino Kyrgyzstan" organizes Festival of Documentary Films on Human Rights "Bir Duino Kyrgyzstan 2013" under the Partner Platform "Central Asia on the Move", main topics of the Festival are: Migration: human rights, right for association and self-expression.
