Alternativa Film Project. Presentation in Bishkek

Alternativa Film Project is a new global non-profit film initiative aimed at supporting emerging filmmakers from developing film industries with financial, educational, and media endorsement.

The mission is to bring into the limelight those talents whose work can enrich our perception of the world and change it for the better. 

Every few years Alternativa will spotlight a different region, with Central Asia taking center stage in 2023.

The Alternativa Film Awards recognize the impact of local feature films, animated films, documentaries, and short films.

The inaugural ceremony takes place in early December 2023 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The total prize fund stands at $100,000, to be equally divided among the five nominations.

The Alternativa Film Labs provide free and practical educational programs for different kinds of filmmakers — from young talents to producers and directors with accomplished projects.

This year the Labs include:

• Teen Lab (Bishkek, September—November) educates participants about the basics of cinema

• Impact Lab (Almaty, November) teaches filmmakers to create more sustainable and inclusive films

• Pitching Workshop (Online, October) trains producers and directors to present their projects and seek funding
